Good teachers play a key role in the provision of quality early childhood education. Poland has a system of in-service training for pre-school teachers, but it does not offer any comprehensive programmes to help them foster children’s creativity, self-esteem or self-reliance. Few programmes encourage the child-centred approach or attention to the individual needs and abilities of children. Comenius Academy, also known as the Centre for the Ongoing Education of Teachers and Parents, is an independent teacher training institution that specialises in the provision of such programmes. (The Academy is formally registered under No. 95/NPDN/2003.)

Comenius Academy has 23 active trainers – psychologists, educators and pre-school methodology consultants – who offer training for teachers, pre-school and school principals, parents and local education officers. On completion of every training course, participants receive teaching manuals or materials and Comenius Academy teacher training certificates
